There is going to be a fire fight at the upcoming WBC convention in November. Promoter Don King will make his case that Andre Berto must defend his WBC welterweight title against mandatory challenger Luis Collazo. Berto is close to a deal to unify with WBA champion Shane Mosley on January 30 on HBO.
When Mosley-Berto was brought about, the WBC issued a warning to Berto. They told him that he might get stripped if he takes the fight. Recently WBC president Jose Sulaiman said the idea of a unification was appealing and he plans to present that idea at the convention. Berto's promoter Lou DiBella told Sulaiman that HBO and Showtime are not interested in a Berto-Collazo rematch, making the fight very hard to put together with no TV money behind it. Berto won a close decision over Collazo at the start of the year.
