The boxing community is usually a close nit bunch when one of their comrades suffer a tragedy. Unfortunately tragedy has struck the family of former heavyweight champion Chris Byrd. Byrd's niece Lillee Rose Byrd was born premature on June 27th.
Many babies are born premature and when Lille Rose was born, she was a fairly healthy baby until she developed an infection that ultimately took her life on the afternoon of September 30th.
While in the hospital battling this disease the Byrd family racked up insurmountable medical bills and is in need of help. Pleas for help reached Twitter where former three-division world champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley urged fighters, fans, and media to donate to the cause and help his friend's family.
Mosley donated $5,000 in cash and another $5,000 in gloves and postage to be given away to fans who donate to the cause.
The Byrd family is faced with medical bills that exceed $300,000 and the cost of funeral arrangements.
Mosley put his money where his mouth is and is asking for fighters, fans, officials and everyone involved in the boxing community, especially those with children, to please go to https://www.gofundme.com/men8n7kg and make a donation big or small for this family in their time of need. Super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell has also made a sizable donation to this cause.
