Former champion Eric Morel has put together a special training plan for his June 27 bout with Fernando Montiel. The two will clash for the vacant WBO bantamweight title on the Pavlik-Mora undercard at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The title became vacant when Gerry Penalosa was stipped for moving up in weight to challenge super bantamweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez. Penalosa may be in line to fight the Montiel-Morel winner.
Eric's father and train, Cirilo Morel, says that his son put together a special training plan to make the bantamweight limit easy without losing any power.
"We know that this fight is important and that's why we are preparing very hard. We feel relaxed and positive," said Cirilo Morel to Primera Hora. "We're doing a plan that Eric designed to feel comfortable. I'm going to switch routines so Eric can lose weight slowly. Eric is eating well. He eats properly. He is strong and comfortable at 130-pounds, and dropping down to avoid having to sacrifice too much as we get close to the day of the fight."
