Cyril Morel, the father/trainer of WBO interim-bantamweight champion Eric Morel, is not concerned with the latest claims of Rafael Concepcion. A conflict has come up with two fighters claiming to have a deal to fight WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel of Mexico.
Pursuant to a recent purse bid ordered by the WBO, Morel and Montiel are scheduled to fight on July 17 in Mexico. Concepcion claims to have his own agreement to fight Montiel on the date of July 17, and says his agreement was made through the WBC and claims to have made that deal prior to the WBO's purse bid.
The older Morel continues to train his son very hard. He doesn't pay attention to the claims of Concepcion because the WBO promised to strip Montiel if he doesn't make his mandatory against Morel.
"We are training hard for this fight so Eric can show his superiority. But now they say that Montiel will fight on that date with another fighter and for the WBC. If true, I think that the WBO will take away his title. This is the last chance that he has [to make his mandatory]. We accept [the deal], signed [a contract] to go to Mexico. If he doesn't want to fight, we'll face Jorge Arce, who is now recovered [from injury]," Cyril Morel told reporter Reymond Colon.
