Inside of the ring Marcos Rene Maidana is constant threat, a bruising and rugged puncher with an absolute penchant for the kill. Such traits were on display vividly during his thrilling June stoppage of Victor Ortiz last year as well as his mugging of gutsy Dominican Victor Cayo earlier this year. A definite brute by nature, Maidana may be limited with certain abilities but it is his power that will always keep him in the game.

Maidana is just now settling into training camp for his December 11th bout with WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan and despite being a clear underdog he seems to know fully well that the dynamite in his fists are reason enough for hope. Maidana’s challenge of Khan will take place at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas and he will be preparing for the contest a few miles north at Barry’s Boxing right off the strip.
The most telling moments from Maidana’s early training sessions have been the moments when he turns his attention to the heavy bag and fires away. Possessing crippling power in each hand, Maidana’s punches resonate throughout the gym every time he cracks away at the bag. The kid’s power is for real and it may just end up being the great equalizer on the 11th.
Maidana is coming off of an underwhelming decision over cagey former champion DeMarcus ‘Chop Chop’ Corley in late August, a bout which those in his camp say wasn’t a true barometer of his skills because of various personal issues leading into the fight. He has a deep understanding of just how dangerous a clash with the ultra talented Khan is to his career.
