In a follow-up to yesterday's report, more details have surfaced concerning the thug who issued threats upon WBC/WBO middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik, threats serious enough that Pavlik filed a police report on Monday in Youngstown.
The Vindicator now reports that the man in question is Anthony Scandy, a former business associate who had some sort of a managerial contract with the fighter that ran out before Pavlik hit it big. The two are involved in a legal dispute that was initiated in 2007. Pavlik advised police that Scandy told people that he would shoot the boxer in both hands to prevent him from fighting.
“It’s all secondhand and hearsay,” Pavlik told the paper. “I can’t say much more than that for legal reasons. He probably did it because he knows he ain’t got a chance” in his lawsuit. I don’t want this to get too pumped up."
Pavlik doesn't fear for himself, but is more concerned with any harm coming to his fiance and daughter. He told police that Scandy is capable or carrying out his threats.
Most recently, Scandy was arraigned on Tuesday in Campbell Municipal Court, alleged to have taken part in the June 24 beating of Seth Leach. Scandy was charged with kidnapping, aggravated burglary and felonious assault. He was freed on a $2,500 cash bond. In this case, Scandy is said to have been one of seven men that bound Leach's hands and feet with duct tape and then beat him. Leach has been in the hospital for several days, suffering from multiple injuries that include a jaw broken in two places, cuts on his face, cuts around his eyes, and bruises on the rest of his body.
Regarding the money, Pavlik's manager Cameron Dunkin told MaxBoxing/BoxingScene.com's Steve Kim that Scandy is trying to shake Pavlik down for $600,000 dollars.
The legal suit between Pavlik and Scandy is scheduled for a January trial at Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
