Former world champions Eric Morales and Genaro “Chicanito” Hernandez visited the Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases at the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles on Monday, the first visit of many that the WBC program plans to schedule with sick children in hospitals all over the world.

The champions were accompanied by Jill Diamond, Chairman of the WBC Female Championships.

Three-time champion Morales, in a demonstration of his deep sensibility, commented afterwards, “It is sad, but at the same time of great importance to come to see these children that are struggling for their lives and in all truth, everything I saw touched me profoundly. I am grateful to have been invited, but it is also fundamental that other governments in all other countries are aware of these needs and work harder to eradicate these fatal illnesses.” Erik traveled from San Diego to fulfill this altruistic action.

For his part, Hernandez  said, “Battles in the ring do not compare with the situation of these sick children, or those premature newborns who nobody knows if they will make it. When we are healthy, we think that life is hard for all our problems, but the illnesses being suffered by all these children really scare you and make you feel truly concerned about what can happen to people in such an early age.”

The World Boxing Council will continue this program in its 163 affiliated countries. For now, we want to sincerely congratulate our world champions Erik and Genaro, who have taken the first step which is of the utmost importance to our organization.
