At the Robin Park Centre in Lancashire, Jamie Moore (31-3, 22 KOs) stopped Michelle Piccirillo (50-5-1, 29 KOs) in the third round to become the first Salford boxer in 99-years to capture a European title.
Piccirillo had trouble in the first round, unable to get away from Moore's southpaw jab, and his left hands. Piccirillo went down twice in the second round after an barrage of body shots. The end came in the third after a left to the head that was followed by another left to liver sent the Italian champion down for the count.
“I am well ready for a world title shot, bring it on,” said Moore to the Manchester Evening News. “I have been screaming for the last three or four years to move up a level. Every fighter needs a challenge and I have been grinding out victories at a lower level through lack of motivation. The motivation was there tonight and you could see that.”
