Contrary to some of the recent reports in the Mexican press, WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel (41-2-2, 31 KOs) will not defend his title against Rafael Concepcion. Top Rank's Carl Morretti advised BoxingScene.com that Montiel will move forward with his mandatory title defense against interim-champion Eric Morel (42-2, 21 KOs).
Top Rank put in the winning purse bid last Friday in New York. Montiel vs. Morel will take place on July 17 in Mexico, and Morretti says the fight will a headline live broadcast of "Top Rank Live" on Fox Sports Esapnol.
