There are continued rumblings in Mexico that WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel (43-2, 33KOs) is going to possibly defend his title in September against former champion Cristian Mijares (39-6-2, 17KOs). It's being reported that both fighters want to make the match. There are talks going on behind the scenes but it's not clear how serious they are.

Before he was hit with a three fight losing streak, Mijares graced the top ten of most pound for pound lists. He was knocked out by Vic Darchinyan in 2008 and then lost back to back decisions to Nehomar Cermeno. Since then he's won three fights, including a recent decision over Francisco Arce, the brother of champion Jorge Arce.
