The camps of Eric Morel and Fernando Montiel expect a tough war on March 28, when the two former champions clash for the vacant interim WBO bantamweight title in Tijuana, Mexico. Morel, since returning to the ring after a prison stint, wants to prove that he is still one of the best fighters in the lower weights.
"We are very excited because the fight is going to be against Montiel. Montiel has been such a great champion at 112 and 115 pounds. What we want is to fight against the best and show the world that Eric is ready to win numerous titles," said Cirilo Morel, father and trainer of Eric, to Primera Hora.
Montiel wants to pick up his third world title in his third weight class. He is training hard to achieve his goal.
"I am very motivated, already I am getting my rhythm and power going. Right now I am getting my physical condition ready. For the later phase, we have a training plan to get a lot stronger," Montiel said to ESTO.
Manuel Montiel, father of Fernando, can't believe a third title is already here.
"Fernando is very happy and motivated and told be me that he must win become a champion of the world for a third time. It began with one (flyweight of the WBO), then came the second (super flyweight of the WBO) and now we will have the the third."
