WBO/WBC bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel will begin their training in the first week of November, much sooner than was initially predicted after he injured his right leg during a motorcycle crash a few weeks ago.
This has opened up the possibility of making a defense of his titles in December.
"I went to see my doctor and he said the wound in my right leg has been virtually closed. I could return to my normal activity within days, but it was recommend that I stay off my feet a little longer, so I will start strong in November to see if I can make a defense in December," Montiel told Sal Rodriguez.
Montiel was going to fight on November 20, but the unexpected fall from a motorcycle had killed those plans. He hopes to face Nonito Donaire in a planned February showdown on HBO.
“I've been the watching a lot, because it certainly was a serious accident, but it could have been worse. Dr. Marco Antonio Leyva has helped me a lot and I hope that everything is well," Montiel said.
