Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico - WBO/WBC bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel drilled Giovani Soto in two rounds. Montiel looked very strong. He was rocking Soto in the first, and dropped him twice in the second on route to finishing him off. The official time of the stoppage was 2:29 of the second.
Following the win, Montiel sent a message to bantamweight contender Nonito Donaire. The two are scheduled to meet on February 19 on HBO.
"I felt very strong. Soto is brave but I came win, and I'm ready for Donaire. On February 19, I will show everyone exactly who's better," Montiel said.
