At the Plaza de Toros, Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, Fernando Montiel (39-2, 29KOs) knocked out Diego Silva (24-2, 12KOs) in the third round to capture the WBO interim-bantamweight title.
Montiel was all class in the first, showing his experience by blasting away at Silva. He put Silva down at the end of the second with a hard right hand. Silva was saved by the bell as Montiel tried to finish him. At the start of the third, he sent Silva down again for the second knockdown of the night. Silva beat the counte and Montiel began to stalk him down. In the final minute, a counter left hook to put Silva down and out.
