New York- Light heavyweight Seanie Monaghan (25-0, 16 KO’s)  won a hard fought TKO victory over veteran Fulgencio Zuniga last Saturday night at The Theater in Madison Square Garden. Monaghan has been active, fighting three times in the last 6 months. Being ranked in all the major sanctioning bodies, he feels it’s time for a title shot.

Monaghan has been eyeing a shot at German Juergen Braehmer but says if that doesn’t happen, he’d love to take on unified champion, Sergey Kovalev - who defends his title next month against mandatory challenger Nadjib Mohammedi.

“I’ve been trying to negotiate with Braehmer right now,” stated Monaghan. “His fight with Nathan Cleverly fell through. Being that I’m with Top Rank right now, Adonis Stevenson would be a hard fight to make. Kovalev is the best guy in the division. To be the man, you got to beat the man. If I got to fight Kovalev one day here, then so be it. I’m available, let’s do it here at the Garden.”

Monaghan is a ticket seller in the New York area so a fight with Kovalev may do well in the area. Monaghan says he just has to keep winning and entertaining.

“At this point all I care about is winning and fans being entertained. I’m over all the criticism. I try to be technical but it’s not in my nature. I’m here to fight and win. I won, these fans have a good time and that’s all that matters.”
