Promoter Frank Warren is set to pit Kevin Mitchell against Colombian dangerman Bredis Prescott - who knocked out Amir Khan in 54 seconds last year - in a WBO final eliminator.  Mitchell, the British super-featherweight champion, will step up to lightweight, where he has boxed before, in order to take on Bredis.  Warren, however, told The Times that Dagenham’s Mitchell, 25, is ready for this type of fight.

“This time I’ve had time to study Prescott.  Kevin needs a challenge and is capable of beating Prescott,” said Warren.  “Before Prescott boxed Amir I hadn’t even seen a tape of him, but the trainer and the team were keen on him, so I went along with it.  I think Amir could beat him if he prepared right for him.  It’s a risk, it’s a cracking fight and it can put Kevin in a very good position.”

Mitchell won the British super-featherweight title courtesy of a thrilling stoppage win over Carl Johanneson.  Since that memorable night in March 2008, Kevin has been blighted by injury and unable to defend his belt.  A fight with Prescott would give Mitchell, 29-0 (22), a head start up at 135lb.
