According to Steve Benbasat, co-manager of super middleweight contender Edison Miranda, the proposed fight between Miranda and former unified titlist Mikkel Kessler has not been finalized in ink. Yet.

"We are currently trying to work out some minor details," Benbasat said, remaining vague in what "details" he was referring to. He added, "at this point, it looks favorable that the fight will take place. In principle, most things are agreed upon. We are very hopeful that it does."

Miranda's co-manager, alongside Greg Wantman, did confirm what had been reported by several news outlets regarding television coverage and a date. "If in fact the fight does take place, it would be televised May 24 on Showtime." A venue has not been confirmed.

Following a co-headlining ESPN card and a lengthy buildup, it appeared that Miranda was heading towards a showdown with undefeated Canadian Jean Pascal in the middle of 2008. Benbasat said, "for technical reasons, it was appearing more likely that a Miranda-Pascal fight would take place one fight down the road as opposed to immediately. We are ready to make a statement now, so we started looking at other options."

Benbasat stated his client's case for a bout with the Danish standout. "We are looking for the best opportunity to prove that we are the real deal and Kessler certainly provides this to us." He continued, "I feel we have a solid chance to beat this guy and make a statement to the boxing world. When you feel you are the best, you need to fight the best and this is what we are doing."
