Newly crowned WBC world lightweight champion Mikey Garcia wants to press ahead and unify the division.

Garcia landed a brutal knockout to dethrone Dejan Zlaticanin in Las Vegas last Saturday to send out a message to the 135lbs division.

Speaking at the post-fight press conference, Garcia declared his intentions to mix it with the best but appreciates it may not be in his next fight.

“I could be back very soon, I’m not injured or cut. I’ll fight anyone. I would love the opportunity to unify the division. We’ll probably have to wait several months as the champions have fights scheduled.”

The 29 year old spoke to iFL TV before his victory to talk up a future showdown with current WBO King Terry Flanagan.

“He was my first choice. He has scheduled a fight and I wasn’t able to get in there,” explained Garcia.

The 36-0 star added: “Terry is slick, he carries power. He uses his ring craft more. He’s also undefeated and a great champion. You can’t say anything less.”

Garcia is no stranger to the WBO strap and has the dangled carrot of a specially designed commemorative ring up for grabs should he land his third WBO crown.

“The reason I wanted him is because I want that WBO title! I held it at featherweight and super featherweight, I want my third. If I win it, I’ll get a ring from the WBO. That’s the reason I want him.”

Now with the contract dispute that kept him out of the ring for two years a thing of the past, Garcia has started to map out his 2017 and would be open to travelling for the right fight.

“I’d love to come to the U.K someday, hell yeah.”

Before thinking about Garcia (36-0, 30KOs), Flanagan (32-0, 13 KOs) has to take care of business on April 8th with Petr Petrov.
