Featherweight contender Mikey Garcia was present at the Gamboa-Salido press conference on Saturday night. His brother Robert "Grandpa" Garcia had just finished guiding the undefeated Brandon Rios to victory over previously unbeaten Anthony Peterson.
Garcia won via TKO over Cornelius Lock on August 14th in an IBF featherweight title eliminator. Garcia is now the mandatory challenger for the IBF strap that Gamboa just lifted off of Orlando Salido. Garcia said, "Gamboa had a great win tonight but I saw some holes in his defense. There are some things we can expose. If I can fight him next then great. I am confident I can beat him."
It seems doubtful that Top Rank would put the young Garcia in the ring with Gamboa at this time. A more likely scenario is that Gamboa gets in one or two more fights before a June clash with Juan Manuel Lopez provided Lopez defeats Rafael Marquez in November.
