Four division world champion Mikey Garcia (38-0, 30 KOs) has promised to invade the welterweight division in the near future.
Last Saturday night in Texas, Garcia won a twelve round unanimous decision over Sergey Lipinets to capture the IBF junior welterweight world title.
Garcia also holds the WBC lightweight title, and captured world titles at featherweight and super featherweight.
Right now Garcia is at a crossroads.
With world titles around his waist at 135 and 140 - he will need to make a decision by next week on where he plans to fight.
He has some interesting options at lightweight and junior welterweight.
But regardless of his next move, he is mentally set on going after a world title at 147.
"I will do five [weight divisions]. It's gonna happen. I'm gonna be one of the ones to do it. Not many fighters are capable of doing it, moving up in weight so much, but I'm not looking at it because Im growing in size. I have to see my skills, my abilities being greater than some of these opponents in higher weight classes," Garcia said to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports.
"So I know that I'll be coming to welterweight soon. I know that I'll be going after that fifth world title in a fifth weight division soon. And some people may not take me serious and think I'm too small in size. I might be small, but I don't lack skills or lack anything in boxing skills and I think that will help me accomplish my goals.
In breaking down the top fighters at the weight, Garcia tabs IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence as the top dog.
"I think right now as far as skills, I would put Errol Spence as number one. Crawford is a very close contender for that spot, we just need to see him in that division first and dominate his opponents there. Thurman is the most accomplished, but I think he's not as polished and that's why I put Thurman after Spence and Crawford. Then you have some tough fighters like Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter," Garcia said.
