One-time undisputed heavyweight champion of the world ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson has blamed the want of bogus promoters for untrue reports about a scheduled appearance in Dubai next month.
The 45 year-old, who dominated boxing through the mid-to-late eighties, has been linked with a guest appearance at a 12-fight tournament in the Middle East since November of this year, which he denies.
“There is a rumor about me being in Dubai on Jan 21st to do an appearance at a fight tournament,” explained Tyson in a statement.
“This is not true and I will not be there. Sorry to all my Dubai fans but unfortunately, a bogus promoter pretending to represent me made an unlawful deal.”
There had also been talk by the promoters of Tyson being reunited at the event with his former conqueror and recently retired heavyweight Danny Williams, who the event promoters claim is also scheduled for a guest slot but it remains to be seen if the same source is involved.
