Add former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson to the long list of people who are big fans of the Tiger King docuseries on Netflix.
The multi-part series, which centers around incarcerated zoo owner Joe Exotic, has become a massive hit around the world.
During his younger days, Tyson himself had several big cats - and he says some of his fearsome pets could have come from Exotic’s zoo in Oklahoma.
Tyson actually had kind words when discussing Exotic, who was a controversial figure.
“People always say these people are scumbags. But these are amazing people with what they can do with their ingenious minds and control over other people’s minds. These guys are born leaders," Tyson said.
“It could have been, maybe where I got my cats could have got their cats from Joe. But I don’t know. If you are in the exotic animal world you are aware of him. “
Exotic is serving a 22-year jail term, after being found guilty of plotting to have animal rights activist Carole Baskin killed.
Tyson admits that he made a big mistake in keeping full grown tigers around his home in the 1990s. He realizes that he could have been seriously injured by one of the big cats.
“I knew what I was doing was a big mistake and I thought it was cool, because of me. It was not me thinking about things rationally – they could hurt you very bad," Tyson said.
