Heavyweight contender Mike Perez is off the January 9 fight card in Santa Ynez, Calif., K2 Promotions’ Tom Loeffler told BoxingScene.com on Wednesday morning.
Perez was penciled in to fight on the Gary Shaw Productions card. While the main event bout between Darleys Perez and Jonathan Maicelo was to be broadcast live on ESPN2, it was unlikely the network was to air the Perez bout in its entirety.
Loeffler told Boxingscene.com that the holidays played a difficult role in finding a suitable opponent. Loeffler stated that the opponents they found were not approved by the California Athletic Commission, considering Perez was penciled to fight a scheduled eight or 10 round bout.
There is a possibility Perez could fight in a scheduled eight round bout on February 5 in Costa Mesa, California on a Roy Englebrecht Promotions card.
Perez (20-1-1, 12 KOs) suffered his first loss as a pro to Bryant Jennings on July 26 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. He has spent the last two months living and training in Oxnard, California. He trains with Robert Garcia.
