At the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, welterweight Mike Jones (22-0, 18KOs) stopped Irving Garcia (17-5, 8KOs) in the fifth round after a referee mishap. Jones was in full control of the fight but Garcia was game and trying to fight back as hard as possible. During the fourth, Jones had Garcia in trouble. He couldn't finish him off before the end of the round. In the fifth, Jones had Garcia in serious trouble but caught him with a bad low blow that sent Garcia down to his knees. The referee did not see the low blow and counted Garcia out. The Garcia corner tried to protest the ending.
