Undefeated junior welterweight contender "Mile High" Mike Alvarado made a recent appearance on The Boxing Lab, Boxingscene.com's official audio show. Alvarado is coming off of a knockout victory over Breidis Prescott on the under card of the Manny Pacquiao’s controversial points win over Juan Manuel Marquez last Saturday.
"Mile High" was trailing on all three scorecards when he was able to knock out his opponent in the 10th and final round. He feels that part of the reason he got off to a slow start is because he didn't come out with his usual aggressive style.
"He thought I would start out fast like I always do but I wanted to start out boxing and using my jab to throw him off a little bit," Alvarado told The Boxing Lab.
Alvarado was cut badly over his eye and also inside of his mouth in the 4th round but felt that he was never in danger.
"He never hurt me where I had to hold on or where I was stunned," said Alvarado.
The Denver, CO native said that he believes he wanted the win more than his opponent and that is why he was able to dig down and get the victory.
"I imposed my will. I was strong. I think he was surprised he didn't put me down. He was still landing but he was surprised by my will. I knew I was in better shape than him and it showed in the last rounds."
Alvarado finished the show by saying that he hopes to get a title shot soon. When asked if there was anyone in particular that he wants to face he said no and that anyone with a title interests him.
"I am ready to fight for a world title. I don't have my mind on anybody in particular but I want to fight anybody with a belt. I want to take over this division. I want to be the best so I have to beat the best."
