LAS VEGAS – Mikaela Mayer continued her march toward a women’s 130-pound world title shot Saturday night.
The 2016 American Olympian out-boxed Lizbeth Crespo convincingly over 10 rounds to remain unbeaten on the Tyson Fury-Tom Schwarz undercard at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Mayer, a Los Angeles native, won all 10 rounds on the card of judge Max De Luca (100-90), nine rounds on the card of judge Glenn Trowbridge (99-91) and eight rounds, according to the third judge (98-92).
The 28-year-old Mayer improved to 11-0 (4 KOs). Argentina’s Crespo, also 28, lost a 10-rounder unanimously for the second time in her past three fights and slipped to 13-5 (3 KOs).
The taller, longer Mayer mostly controlled the action with her jab, maintained her distance and landed enough right hands to catch the attention of the judges. Crespo tried to bull her way inside, but she couldn’t consistently land shots on Mayer.
Crespo shook her head once Lupe Contreras announced the decision, though she didn’t seem to do enough to upset Mayer.
