Morelia, Michoacan, Sinaloa - Former world champion Cristian Mijares returns to the ring on Saturday night in Morelia, and he wants to make a statement. Now represented by Zanfer Promotions, southpaw Mijares (44-6-2, 20 KOs) will face Colombian Eddy Julio (13-3-1, 11 KO's) for the WBC's International silver title at super bantamweight. The fight will headline Zanfer's card at the Unidad Deportiva Centenario. TV Azteca will televise.
"I want to thank Zanfer for having the confidence in me. The scenario is quite interesting, with possible fights against Nonito Donaire, Jorge 'Travieso' Arce and Victor Terrazas. I'm very motivated and had excellent training and on Saturday you will see me highly motivated and ready to reclaim my position at the top of the boxing world," said former world champion.
If Mijares beats Julio, there is a good possibility that he'll face WBO champion Nonito Donaire on July 14th at Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Texas.
"Right now I'm focused on succeeding against the Colombian and if we come out fine - then we'll focus on the fight with Donaire, who I'm sure I'll can beat," Mijares said.
