The former super flyweight champion of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), Cristian Mijares (45-6-2, 21 KO's), is very confident of being able to defeat Nonito Donaire (28-1-0, 18), the WBO's super bantamweight champion. At one time Mijares was recognized as one of the best boxers in the world. Then he suffered a three fight losing streak. But in the last two years Mijares has managed to get his career back on track.
Donaire is scheduled to return on June 30 or July 7 in a doubleheader with Brandon Rios, and Mijres has been mentioned as a possible opponent for the Filipino champion. IBF champion Jeffrey Mathebula is another candidate in the hot running to face Donaire.
Although Mijares is not Donaire's confirmed opponent, the Mexican fighter has already started training in the event of a deal being finalized.
"I see myself being victorious. I am preparing for it, physically and mentally, I dream of winning. I'm at the peak of my career, getting up again after all of these setbacks. I came back to win the IBF super flyweight world championship. The we went to bantamweight, and now we are at super bantamweight. We are preparing very hard to get the upset and beat the best in the division," Mijares said.
