BoxingScene.com has been advised that negotiations are underway for IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez (30-3, 13KOs) to step in on short notice and face Amir Khan on May 19th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

As BoxingScene has previously reported, Lamont Peterson tested positive for synthetic testosterone and is unlikely to be licensed in Nevada for the fight. Peterson's legal team will be allowed to make a case as to why Peterson should still be allowed to proceed with the fight.

Vazquez has campaigned at lightweight for most of his career and according to our sources has been working hard in the gym and can easily make the 140 pound junior welterweight limit.  He last fought in January when he successfully defended his title against Ammeth Diaz.
