Turning Stone Resort & Casino, Verona, New York - Miguel Vazquez (32-3, 13KOs) won a twelve round split decision over mandatory challenger Marvin Quintero (25-4, 21KOs) to retain the IBF lightweight championship for the fourth time. The scores were 115-113 for Quintero, 116-112 for Vazquez and 118-110 for Vazquez.
After being dominated in the first round, Quintero started making it a fight in the second. Vazquez was taking full advantage of the big ring by moving at all times and jumping in with quick combinations and then moving away. Quintero continued to press the action and was making the rounds very close. At around the eight round, Vazquez started doing more work. They were trading rounds down the line until the final bell.
