IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez (34-3, 13KOs) explained his decision to sign a contract with powerful adviser/manager Al Haymon. Vazquez signed a three year agreement, with Haymon's right hand partner, Sam Watson, handling the execution. Vazquez's Mexican coach Javier Capetillo was also present.
Vazquez, who became a world champion in 2010, wants to be more active. He only fought eight times in four years. He hopes to fight again on August 30th or the first Saturday in September, with Showtime potentially televising the bout.
"[I went to Haymon because] I have no contract with Top Rank, I had false promises from my previous promoter, Zanfer, and because Top Rank also said they wanted me but unfortunately I never had their support," said Vazquez.
"I know the path of Haymon, he was interested in me. I know little about him, but we know that he cares for his fighters and that everything is good with him. The truth is, he offered me good and interesting things, which drew our attention and we are excited for [the deal] and with the things being offered."
"It seems that I'll be back in Las Vegas or Los Angeles. I hope that my career will receive the boost it needs and I've waited a long time."
