Mexican boxer Miguel "Mickey" Roman, bulldozingly underlined just why he`s the WBC super featherweight mandatory contender, after sweeping aside Filipino fighter Jerope Mercado, in a dusty bout which was paradoxically fought one division up at lightweight.
Finally levelled, Jerope had tried his level best providing a lot better than just: "Money for all rope." but often as not he was backed into them and clobbered, with unrelenting gusto.
Jerope who looked somewhat fleshy at this weight, pawed with his left jab, which proved a costly mistake that he painfully paid for, by getting caught with a stiff left hook in the opening round.
A grimly determined Mickey decided to really up the tempo in the second, so down went Jerope from a flurry, which also deeply cut his right eyebrow. Shocked to the core, up got Jerope so fast as his legs would carry him, so much so, that Referee Sergio Hernandez didn`t administer a count. But Micky did continue to apply a severe pasting.
Everything abruptly ended at 1:10 of the third. A huge left hook canvassed Jerope, who bravely got up, but it was stopped moments later, as he was plainly in no condition to continue. Elegant it wasn`t, but effective and crowd pleasing it was , providing the ace in the pack, on the card “KO Kings." The event was organized by Promociones del Peublo at the Arena Jose Sulaiman in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.
Roman (56-11, 43 KOs) notches up his 18th knockout victory in a row-no argument there! He`s now declaring he wants the opportunity to contest the WBC super featherweight title, which is in the iron grip of his compatriot Francisco "Bandido" Vargas.
