As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, former two-division champion Miguel Cotto plans to retire by the next October, when he turns 30-years-old. Top Rank, who promote Cotto, are planning his return for next June - around the time of the Puerto Rican Day Parade.
Cotto rang off several possible opponents and one of them was ex-champion Jose Luis Castillo of Mexico. Once again, Cotto refused to entertain any conversation regarding a rematch with rival Antonio Margarito, who returns from his suspension in early 2010.
"I've already said enough about Margarito. It's a closed chapter in my life," Cotto said.
Cotto said there are no plans to replace rookie trainer Joe Santiago. Critics were abound over Cotto's corner, or the lack of one, during last month's TKO loss to Manny Pacquiao. He says the team will stay the same but they plan to switch a few things around in training camp.
