Sources close to the situation have advised BoxingScene.com that a push is being made to give undefeated Vanes Martirosyan (28-0, 17KOs) a shot at Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28KOs) and his WBA title. This would be Martirosyan's first world title shot and Miguel Cotto's first title defense at 154 pounds.
It has been rumored that Martirosyan's trainer Freddie Roach really likes the matchup for his fighter and has been pushing to get the fight made. Top Rank wants to have Cotto return in the winter and may have him lined up in 2011 for the winner of Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito, if a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not made.
