Miguel Angel Gonzalez (51-5-1, 40KOs), 42, is training for a comeback. The former world lightweight champion has been in the gym for the last couple of weeks with coach Isidro González Pérez. Gonzalez was at one time a feared boxer in the sport. He's been inactive since 2006, when he knocked out Ulysses "Bear" Duarte in ten rounds in Veracruz. In the same year he defeated defeating Alejandro Luis Garcia in Acapulco, but prior to that, in 2004 and 2005, he was soundly beaten by then champions Cory Spinks and Luis Collazo, respectively.
Gonzalez plans to return for at least two fights at welterweight. If he doesn't feel satisfied with his performances, he will retire from the sport for good.
