Caracas - The lightweight world champion of the WBA, Venezuelan Miguel "Aguacerito" Acosta, will not be able to make the first defense of the black and gold belt in a fight scheduled for September 25 in Mexico.
"Since Saturday there was a problem, a pain that was treated. He was treated and re-evaluated on Tuesday, but definitely he can not do anything. The doctor himself said it was not good to take risks and it was better to rest for at least a month," said Professor Oscar Acosta, manager and father of Miguel.
Also explained that both the fighter and the whole team regretted the situation, " we made every effort to recover and be ready for the fight, but could not."
Dr. Luis Miguel Gomez was the one who had the last word and recommended complete rest for the champion. "He said it is the left back muscle that is giving him problems, and rest is the only thing that will help him to recover."
Miguel Acosta had planned the first defense of his title against Mexico's Ricardo Dominguez, in Chetumal, Mexico, on the 25th of this month. Now he must make adjustments and expects a new date.
