Caracas - The world lightweight champion of the WBA, Venezuela's Miguel "Aguacerito" Acosta, has said emphatically that he never rejected an offer to fight René "Chirizo" Gonzalez, and further said that he "doesn't even know who he is." Several reports said Acosta was presented with an offer to face him at the WBA's convention and turned the offer down. Acosta said he was unaware any offer made for Gonzalez, and has no idea where these stories have come from.

He said that he's returned to the gym and is getting ready for any commitment against any opponent. "There are great opportunities to fight in the convention in Nicaragua, so if he wants to fight, get in touch with me and I will fight him. I have no problems."

He denied that he was choosing an opponent by name or by record, "to me I do not care if it is Chirizo, or Toro Bermúdez, or an entire zoo, I will fight anybody."

He admitted that there are two names being considered for his next opponent, "when we know who it is, we will officially announce it," and Acosta confirmed that he will go to Managua to participate in the eighty-ninth edition of the Annual Convention of the WBA.
