After a stop-start career, Preston prospect Mick Hall is relishing a fresh start when he appears at the Blackpool Winter Gardens on Saturday March 29.
Since turning over in 2009 the light-middleweight’s career has been stalled by managerial problems but, now under the VIP Promotions banner, undefeated Hall says he will turn talent into titles.
At the iconic boxing venue in Blackpool, Mick will look to improve to 9-0 against tough gatekeeper Max Maxwell. The Midlander has been in with Britain’s best, and once knocked out future world title challenger Brian Rose, so ‘The Hammer’ knows he cannot take his eye off the ball for a second.
"I’m looking to showcase my boxing,” revealed Hall. “I’m out to impress, and let Steve [Wood] have a look at me and see what I’m capable of doing against a live opponent like Maxwell.
“Maxwell is tough. He’s KO’d Rose; he’s fought all the top lads and has only been stopped twice in over 40 fights. So, I’ll use my boxing and if the stoppage comes it comes, but I’m not going to look for it.”
Describing himself as a boxer-puncher with pop, Hall says the lone inside-the-distance victory on his record belies his heavy hands. Desperate to build some much-needed career momentum, the 27-year-old is eyeing a busy 2014, and then wants silverware.
“I want to just get out as often as possible. I’ve had a stop-start career and I just want to push on as fast as possible now. I’m always in the ring, training or sparring, and I’m ready to step up.
“I’d love to get the Central Area title this year at least. And then I want to push on for the British. I’m more than capable of achieving it and I’m chasing some of the bigger names in the future to climb up those rankings.”
“The VIP stable has got a great history of light-middleweights,” said promoter Steve Wood. “We’ve had some terrific fighters like Jamie Moore and Brian Rose, and I hope that Mick will eventually have similar success.
“Max Maxwell is always a good marker, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the contest goes. The Winter Gardens is one of Britain’s best boxing venues and the atmosphere is always special. This will be a very entertaining evening of boxing, with some great fights, and there will be some tickets available on the door.”
VIP Promotions, along with Hatton Promotions, presents Blackpool’s Matty Askin versus London’s Menay Edwards for the English cruiserweight title. Also appearing on the bill will be Blackpool’s Adam Little; Cumbria’s Rick Skelton; Bolton’s Danny Watson; Liverpool’s Jay Metcalfe; Blackburn’s Qasim Niaz; Lancaster’s Dempsey Fury; Oswaldtwistle’s Adam Machaj; Merseyside’s Ian Halsall and Louis Cuddy; Leigh’s Ashley Peyton; Preston’s Mick Hall; and Atherton’s Craig Boardman.
Tickets, priced at £30 (General) and £60 (Ringside), are available from all boxers or at www.vipbe.co.uk or can be purchased on the door.
