Irish boxer Michael Conlan may have been knocked out of competition in Rio, but he is still a winner in the eyes of at least one fan.

Conlan was defeated by Russian Vladimir Nikitin in the bantamweight quarter-finals, with the Irishman blasting officials as "corrupt" in an expletive-laden rant at the judging.

"AIBA are just corrupt. They've robbed me of my Olympic dream. Obviously Russia can't dope this time so they are obviously paying the judges a lot more."

While the boxer's frustrations were shared by several supporters around the world, one young fan has offered to give Conlan his own gold medal, which he won at his play school's sports day.

Finn McManus, a five-year-old boy from County Dublin, wrote a letter to the boxer offering his support.

Finn's mother, Meadhbh McManus, sent a screenshot of the letter — which Finn's nine-year-old sister Lily helped him write — to Conlan via private message on Facebook.

But the letter went viral after Ms McManus's brother shared the photo on Facebook.

Conlan responded to the gesture on Twitter, saying he had a gift for the young lad behind the "very warming message".

Since Conlan's bout, several Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) referees and judges have been dropped.

"The concerned referees and judges will no longer officiate at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games," the body's statement read.

The statement said the results of all bouts to date would still stand, and included a response to Conlan's allegations of corruption within the corporation.

"The organisation will not be deterred by subjective judgements made by discontented parties," it said.

"We welcome all parties to come forward and provide evidence in order to take appropriate and immediate action."
