MONTREAL - Here is the good news, in the second bout of his return from a serious head injury, heavyweight contender Joe Mesi (31-0, 25KOs) scored a six-round unanimous decision over Stephane (Brutus) Tessier of Longueuil, Que. on Friday night.
Here is the bad news, Mesi went the distance with a fighter who holds a 3-8 record with 1 knockout. Ringside observers said Mesi looked very heavy (239 at the weigh-in) and appeared to be suffering from some serious ring rust.
The scorecards were 60-54, 60-54 and 59-55, all for for Mesi. The hometown crowd booed the decision.
