It appears that Team Mesi is taking no chances with the boxing event headlined by Laila Ali in Capetown, South Africa. The Niagra Gazette reports that Mesi will no longer fight on the card, after the promoter of the event could not produce the promised $3 million for the fight, and only had $1.7 million.
No offense to Mesi, but $1.7 million is a lot of money for a boxer in his position to fight a journeyman with little to no hope of beating him.
Jack Mesi, said that his son Joe would now stage his next fight in the United States and they will likely hold the bout near his hometown of Buffalo, New York.
(Please not that the Niagra Gazette may have confused the purse of Mesi, with the purse number for Ali, which was over $3 million dollars.)
