Strength and conditioning coach Angel "Memo" Heredia is a very busy man.
The Mexico native recently worked with former two division champion Orlando Salido who lost to Mickey Roman on December 16th, and also with lightweight contender Jose Felix Jr. who also picked up a win on the same date. His busy slate will continue throughout the winter months.
Heredia also worked with former WBC middleweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for his May showdown against Canelo Alvarez.
Heredia helped Chavez get down to the contracted 164.5 pound catchweight for the HBO pay-Per-View fight. It was the first time that Chavez had weighed that low since 2012, when he was the middleweight champion.
Heredia had also helped Chavez get down to the super middleweight limit of 168 for ring return last December.
For the contest with Canelo, Chavez trained with Hall of Fame coach Nacho Bersitain of Mexico.
But, BoxingScene.com recently reported that Chavez has parted with Nacho and reunited with former trainer Joe Goossen and appears headed towards a fight against countryman Alfredo Angulo in either February or March - but so far hasn't let Heredia know if he will be retaining his services.
"I haven't talked to him. Right now I have been focused on Andy Ruiz who is coming back and Alex Luna who is fighting on January 16th and Josesito Felix and Salido - so I have been busy. At the end of the day I am a busy guy. If he needs me I will be there and if he doesn't then he doesn't. I am not really devoting my time for him. I am devoting my time for the guys who want to put in good work," Heredia told BoxingScene.com.
Angulo is also waiting on the sidelines, unsure as to when or where the contest will take place. Initially it was targeted for January 26th in Los Angeles.
