Caleb Truax has traded “Porky” for “Pooh.”
The Minnesotan middleweight was supposed to face Rogelio “Porky” Medina on July 25 in Chicago on the undercard to ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights.” But Truax tells BoxingScene.com that Medina is out, and instead the opponent will be Derek “Pooh” Ennis.”
Truax and Ennis were actually supposed to fight earlier this year on the “Friday Night Fights” season premiere. But Ennis pulled out, and in stepped Ossie Duran. Truax and Duran fought to a draw.
That brought the 30-year-old Truax’s record to 23-1-2 with 14 KOs. The lone loss came against Jermain Taylor in April 2012; Truax dropped Taylor in the ninth round of that bout.
Ennis, 33, last fought in March, returning from a 14-month layoff to take a six-round decision over an 11-6 opponent named Emil Gonzalez. His last win of note was a majority decision over Gabriel Rosado in July 2010. He lost to Jonathan Gonzalez in January 2013. Ennis’ record is 24-4-1 with 13 KOs.
Medina, 25, is 32-6 with 26 KOs, with those defeats coming against fighters such as Gilberto Ramirez Sanchez, Yory Boy Campas, Jose Uzcategui, Badou Jack and Jonathan Gonzalez.
