Unbeaten bantamweight prospect McJoe Arroyo, who beat Eduardo Meléndez by knockout last Saturday on the undercard of an event presented by PR Best Boxing in a Bayamón priosn, suffered a fractured jaw and lost a tooth. Under the rules of the Purto Rican Boxing Commission, he has to rest between 60 to 90 days and then get evaluated by a surgeon.

Arroyo, who improved his record to 7-0 with four knockouts, confronted some difficulty with his lanky rival in first two rounds, where he got caught a couple of times before stopping his opponent by technical knockout at 1:38 of the fourth.

A forearm from Meléndez was the apparent blow that injured Arroyo's jaw and not an accidental headbutt.

Arroyo, who should be the Rookie of the Year 2010, had some trouble in the first round due to the height of his opponent but once he made some adjustments he was able to impose his style despite the injury that caused a flow of blood from his mouth.
