John Kavanagh, trainer for UFC superstar Conor McGregor, expects his fighter to enter the boxing ring in "the next 12-18 months."
McGregor made his boxing debut back in August of 2017 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where he faced five division champion Floyd Mayweather, who was coming back from a two year layoff.
McGregor started well, but once Mayweather got going it became a one-sided contest - with Mayweather breaking him down and stopping him in the tenth round.
Their Showtime Pay-Per-View event generated huge business, with the contest grabbing the second highest buyrate in combat sports history.
He returned to the octagon in January, at UFC 246, and took down Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in just 40 seconds.
Since his return to the UFC, McGregor has been very vocal about boxing again in the near future.
McGregor has recently been linked to a Mayweather rematch and a clash with Manny Pacquiao.
“I'd honestly be surprised if Conor doesn't have a boxing match in the next 12-18 months," Kavanagh said to Gareth Davies.
“He loves boxing. He loved the training for the Mayweather fight. It has to be something big, whatever he does seems to always get bigger. He's always looking for that next step up.”
McGregor has claimed in several interviews that Mayweather "tricked" him in their 2017 showdown. He expected Mayweather to fight on the back-foot with a lot of defense - and his entire training camp was based around that single fighting style. But Mayweather was not defensive. Instead he came forward and let his hands go, and after a few rounds McGregor was physically exhausted from the unexpected pace.
