UFC superstar Conor McGregor knocked out his long-time rival Jose Aldo in mere 13 seconds to capture the UFC featherweight championship in the main event of the UFC 194 pay-per-view from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Irishman McGregor had said in the build-up to the event that he would embarrass Aldo with a first-round knockout, reports BBC sports.
Nicknamed 'The Notorious,' McGregor said, "I will KO Jose Aldo and I will face the winner of the lightweight belt, which takes place a week after, and then I will fight for that. So within the next two fights, I will be a two-weight world champion."
It was the first defeat for Aldo in 10 years after winning 18 straight fights.
McGregor is considered by many now as the biggest star in the UFC after Ronda Rousey knockout loss last month in Australia.
He wants to become the biggest star in pay-per-view. He says his aim is to break the record of the May 2nd contest between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, which generated 4.4 to 4.6 million pay-per-view purchases.
"Tonight was a phenomenal night. A $10.1 million gate, a phenomenal number. We've done it again. What did Mayweather-Pacquiao do? $72 million. That's [the aim]. I'm catching up [with Mayweather] I'm only 27, those old motherf***ers were 40. I'm only warming up," McGregor said.
"I said to [UFC owners] Lorenzo Fertitta and Dana White, I'm breaking these big numbers, I'm breaking these half a billion dollar revenue numbers like the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. At 27 years of age I stand here as the unified world champion with back-to-back gate records at the MGM Grand. This is trending as the highest PPV I believe of all time for the UFC.
"At 27 years of age with every record in the book, with divisions above ready for me to go at, super fights left and right. I'm going straight up, I'm bringing these big numbers, the sky is the limit. Anything can happen."
