Craig McEwan’s proposed showdown with Martin Murray has been scrapped after Golden Boy Promotions repelled Ricky Hatton’s plans to put the fight on in Las Vegas. Edinburgh’s McEwan, 18-0 (10 early), had originally hoped to meet Murray on the undercard of Matthew Hatton’s EBU welterweight title defence against Yuriy Nuzhnenko at the Bolton Arena on the 19th of July but those hopes have now been dashed.
A bemused McEwan, 28, bemoaned the situation when speaking to sport.scotsman.com. He said: “I was keen to clash with Murray but I was amazed at their [Hatton Promotions] idea of moving the fight to Vegas. Even though Golden Boy Promotions are based in LA, they have enough savvy to know that an England versus Scotland scrap would draw more ringside fans in the UK.”
