Talon Boxing head trainer John Tandy today contacted BoxingScene.com to inform us that on the undercard Bernard Hopkins vs. Roy Jones Jr. bill at the Mandalay Bay Events Centre in Las Vegas on April 3rd, his charge Kris Andrews, 15-8-2 (4 early), will take on the undefeated Scot Craig McEwan, 17-0 (9 early).
McEwan, who trains at the Wildcard Gym under the watchful eye of Freddie Roach, is a highly regarded prospect, who in his last fight beat the previously undefeated James Parison. He'll be looking to make a statement against Andrews on the massive stage that will behold him on such a revered undercard.
While Canadian underdog Kris Andrews' record may not be the most outstanding on paper, he has won his last four, and there is the feeling that his move to John Tandy's camp will suit him and bring his game on. Not many will expect him to pull this off, but a win here would send a message out to the rest of the light-middleweight division.
