During a training session in Levallois, we met up with Antonin Decarie, the WBA co-challenger in the super-welterweight division, who faces Souleymane M'baye (French) for the WBA interim title on May 28 at Palais des Sport Marcel Cerdan in Levallois-Perret, Hauts-de-Seine, France . The Québécois (French canadian) is sure of himself and has no doubts about winning; he confided his certainty in us during a training session.

BoxingScene: How did you discover boxing?

I started boxing when I was 14 years old, following the example of my step-father who had boxed in the past. I signed up at a nearby gym and I fell in love with the sport. Then, I was on the Canadian amateur team for 5 years where I competed in 99 fights. This experience has greatly served me in the professional world.

BoxingScene: What is your current state of mind?

I’m very happy because this is the biggest fight of my career. I am thankful to everyone who has contributed to the realisation of this event.

BoxingScene: How is your preparation for the fight going?

I have been training for this fight for more than 4 months, and despite the fact that it was canceled and postponed, I stayed in shape, and I spent the last three weeks in the Dominican Republic, weeks during which I really intensified my preparation. I fought with boxers who have the same fighting style as Souleymane M'baye. I am very satisied with my preparation and I feel really good.

BoxingScene: How would you define yourself as a boxer?

I’m a bit like M'baye, I can adapt to all styles. I like to box with finesse and strategy and use my jab. I consider myself more a technician than a brawler.
