MGM Grand, Las Vegas - During the post-fight press conference which followed his rematch with Marcos Maidana, WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26KOs) took a few swipes at British superstar Amir Khan (29-3, 19KOs).
Khan sat ringside at the MGM Grand, and watched Mayweather outbox Maidana to a twelve round unanimous decision. Following the fight, Khan called for a May showdown with Mayweather. The British boxer has aggressively pursued a fight with Maywetaher for at least two years.
Mayweather reacted to questions regarding Khan's challenge for a May fight.
"Amir Khan is a solid, good competitor. He's a good fighter. We don't know who I'm fighting. I'm not rushing. If that fight happens to come my way, then we'll make it happen. Amir Khan is a good fighter. When Amir Khan was an amateur, everybody was taking shots at Floyd Mayweather. When he was an amateur, I was a champion. When Amir Khan turned pro, he got knocked out, I was a champion, and when Amir Khan got knocked out again, I was champion. When he lost his belt again, I was still champion and I'm still right here," Mayweather said.
